Born in Quincy, 57-year-old Dean began playing in his father's band, The Country Rocks, at age 8. He continued to play with the band throughout high school, along with other local musicians. He attended college one year on a basketball scholarship before dropping out to pursue his music career.

By the time Dean was 20 he made the finals on the "Wrangler Country Star Search," followed by a male vocalist win on the television competition "Star Search" six years later. By the end of the decade he had signed a recording contract and has been active as a recording artist since 1990.

In 1992 he earned the Top New Male Vocalist award from the Academy of Country Music.

He has recorded eight studio albums, three of which are certified gold, and a greatest hits package that also certified gold. His studio albums have accounted for more than 20 hit singles on the Billboard country charts, including 11 Top Ten hits.

In 2000, Dean had a Billboard Number One as a guest artist, along with Alison Krauss, on Kenny Roger's "Buy Me a Rose" and had two Number Ones on the country charts in Canada.

Dean toured with The Judds on their farewell tour in 1991 and also with Wynonna Judd and Clint Black. He also opened for Alam Jackson's tour in 1993.

Dean was mentor to his special guest, Chloe Channell when she competed in "American Idol," accompanying her on the guitar.

Channell, 19, was born in Pensacola. She started singing as soon as she could form words and took the stage for the first time at the age of 6.

At age 7, in 2009, she became a full-time member of The Sawmill Band at the Chumuckla Farmer's Opry. At 8 she went into Coleman Studios in Navarre with a native Nashville band to record her first self-titled CD.

Channell has performed in more than 300 shows across Northwest Florida, Southern Alabama, and Georgia, opening for such stars as Tracy Bird, Rodney Adkins, Little Big Town, Craig Morgan, Ronnie McDowell, Gene Watson, John Conlee, and the "Queen of Bluegrass" Rhonda Vincent.

Channell's audition in 2013 in "America's Got Talent" saw her making it to the quarterfinals. Last year she was a contestant on the 17th season of "American Idol." He was eliminated win the Hollywood Rounds.
